Carter Meader Sox

Carter Sox is an associate attorney at Dabdoub Law Firm. Her practice is devoted to securing disability benefits for clients who are no longer able to work due to sickness or injury. She helps her clients obtain benefits through their private or group insurance policies by filing claims and appeals on their behalf. She also litigates benefit denials and terminations in state and federal court. A large number of her cases are governed by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (“ERISA”).

Prior to joining the firm, Carter practiced as an ERISA attorney in Mountain View, California, where she represented Taft-Hartley benefits funds. She regularly advised the benefits funds’ trustees on compliance matters, benefits appeals, administrative matters, and fiduciary responsibilities. She also represented the funds in litigation in federal court. Her work exposed her to a variety of ERISA and labor law matters.

Carter graduated magna cum laude from the American University Washington College of Law in 2013 and was admitted to the Order of the Coif. During law school, Carter served as President of the Moot Court Honor Society and Symposium Editor for the Journal of Gender, Social Policy and the Law. She was awarded a Peggy Browning Fellowship for her work on behalf of labor unions and spent a semester working for the Department of Justice in the Civil Rights Division, Office of Special Counsel for Immigration-Related Employment Discrimination. Prior to attending law school, Carter earned her Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Virginia.

She is an active member of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers, the Dade County Bar Association, and the Junior League of Miami. She also serves as a Board Member for the Miami-Dade County Commission for Women.
